The UAE's 30-day visa grace period closed on 9 July 2026, marking the end of a phased government response to regional airspace closures and flight suspensions that began on 28 February 2026.
What the Grace Period Covered
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) had waived overstay fines in March for visa holders, exit permit holders, and residents unable to leave the country because of the disruptions. As regional conditions stabilised, the ICP set a defined window – 10 June to 9 July – for affected individuals to either regularise their residency or employment status or depart under standard procedures, with no additional paperwork required.
What to Do If Your Status Was Affected
With the grace period now closed, standard immigration and overstay rules are back in effect. Anyone whose status was affected and who has not yet taken action should check their visa status through official ICP channels and regularise it as soon as possible to avoid overstay fines and compliance issues.
What This Means for Businesses
For businesses, the episode is a useful reminder of how the UAE handles regulatory exceptions: clearly defined timelines, waived penalties tied to genuine circumstances, and a firm return to standard rules once conditions normalise. That predictability is worth building into HR and compliance planning for any company managing visa-sponsored staff in the UAE.
