Moving to the UAE: A Comprehensive Guide for Families

27th January 2025

Relocating your family to the United Arab Emirates can be an exciting adventure, but it requires careful planning and adherence to specific rules and requirements.

This guide aims to make your move to the UAE as seamless as possible, breaking down the process into manageable steps.

Step 1: Document Attestation

The cornerstone of your family’s move is proper document attestation. This crucial step involves:

  1. Send Required Original Documents: Ensure you have the original marriage certificate for you and your spouse and your children’s birth certificates ready.
  2. Authentication Process: The documents will be shipped to the country of origin to complete the first part of the attestation process. The UAE Embassy in the country of origin will authenticate the documents and stamp them with a green UAE notary stamp.
  3. Notary Verification: A notary public will verify the documents received when sent back to the UAE.
  4. Final Attestation by UAE MOFA: The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) will complete the attestation process with a second UAE notary stamp, this time pink and signed off.

Step 2: Visa Processing

When you arrive in the country, you will need to prepare the remainder of the documents required to start the visa process.

Sponsor’s Documents

  • Scanned Passport, Visa, and Emirates ID copy
  • Physical Emirates ID
  • Residential Ejari, Confirmed Tenancy Contract, or Title Deed
  • Salary Certificate from employer or registered authority
  • 6 months bank statements, from UAE or home country

Spouse’s Documents

  • Scanned Passport copy
  • Fully attested copy of marriage certificate
  • Studio photograph for Visa and Emirates ID (must meet UAE specifications for the Emirates ID)

Child’s Documents

  • Scanned Passport copy
  • Fully attested copy of birth certificate
  • Studio photograph for Visa and Emirates ID (must meet UAE specifications for the Emirates ID)

Note: Documents must be submitted as per the guidelines attached to avoid any delays. Once everything has been received, the process will start to sponsor the family on your behalf and activate the visa.

Step 3: Delivery

The visas are completed, and Emirates IDs are delivered.

Rules

  1. If you are moving here as a married couple and the father will be sponsored by a company or sponsoring himself, the children must be sponsored as dependents on his visa.
  2. The sponsors must have the ability to have a visa on arrival or a valid tourist visa to enter the UAE. You can see which passport holders have visa on arrival status here.
  3. There are potential additional costs throughout the process, such as refundable deposits per sponsor up to AED 5,000.
  4. Immigration has the right to refuse any application without reason. It is crucial that all steps above are followed to ensure visa approval the first time.
